Auclair & Martineau Inc. is a maker of boots, shoes and mocassins for the entire family. Its products are crafted by 90 artisans working in the company’s plant on de la Faune Street in Saint-Émile, a neighbourhood in the northern part of the Greater Quebec City Area. These workers produce 150,000 pairs of shoes every year that are sold under three brand names: Amimoc for mocassins, Martino for waterproof urban boots, and Maël for high-end women’s shoes and boots. The company is also a subcontractor for other brands.
Auclair & Martineau have built a reputation for manufacturing fully insulated waterproof boots using high-quality traditional hand-crafted methods.
The company was founded in 1956 by Henri Auclair and Jules Martineau. Back in the 1980s, it produced a million pairs each year. In 1995, Xavier Leclercq, a native of France who had worked as a consultant in shoe factories around the world, purchased Auclair & Martineau. In 2007, he handed the reins of the company over to his son Jonathan. With a bachelor’s degree in industrial design from Polytechnique Montréal, Jonathan has also studied the art of shoe making at the Istituto Internazionale Arte Calzaturiera e Pelletteria in Milan.
As of 2018, Auclair & Martineau has three shops in Quebec City, Montreal and Vancouver. Its products are also sold in 150 stores in Canada and the United States.
